The dormant Spill Mountains are often inhabited by a strange, specialized hominid species known as the Spill Mountain Folk,
or Babrians. Their vertical cities are carved into the rocks and great blocks of permafrost in the ice floes. Strangely-branching stairways and slender suspension bridges interconnect the dwellings and public gathering-places. Generally a single flight of arduous rock-cut steps tumbles all the way down to the timberline of the towering foothills. Biologically well-adapted to life at very high altitudes, the Spill Mountain Folk rely heavily on balloons for transportation.
