GRIMWILD is a game of character-driven fantasy adventure and mischief. Characters are competent but not invincible, players set their own goals and earn XP for pursuing them, and the GM has a clear framework of moves that they play the game by. The group sets and pursues goals together, coalescing into the main story arcs, while each character has their own pursuits, creating sideplots and getting them into trouble. This push and pull at the fiction, and the bonds it creates between the characters, is the core of the game.

The game takes the classic fantasy formula of the 12 classes and more than 100 monsters from Dungeons & Dragons 5e and places them within an easy to learn, modern, narrative gaming ruleset inspired by games like The Wildsea, Cortex Prime, and Blades in the Dark. We've also added a healthy dose of emergent gameplay inspiration from Into the Odd, Mausritter, and other OSR/NSR games. Our own additions to this formula hone in even further on getting the adventure feel just right and focusing strongly on character and player-driven gameplay.
